The NovaSom® Diagnostic System, from Sleep Solutions, Inc., is the first nationally available, full-service home testing system that was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for diagnostic evaluation of adults with possible sleep apnea. It allows patients to undergo testing for OSA in the comfort and privacy of their homes.
In clinical studies, the diagnostic accuracy and predictability of the NovaSom System were proven to be comparable to in-lab polysomnography for diagnosis of OSA, at a fraction of the cost.
NovaSom is delivered directly to and administered by the patient. The system includes a bedside console and three small sensors that are applied by the patient before going to sleep. Easy-to-follow instructions and voice prompts help guide the patient each night during the sleep test and ensure proper placement of the sensors.
The system can be used for up to three nights to collect sleep data, including:
- Respiratory events (apneas and hypopneas)
- Snoring intensity
- Blood oxygen saturation
- Pulse rate
- Respiratory effort
After three nights of use, the system is mailed back to Sleep Solutions where data are extracted and analyzed, and a comprehensive report is sent to a qualified physician for interpretation and diagnosis. Study results are delivered to the referring physician within 48 hours of receipt from the patient. This allows for rapid and accurate diagnosis of OSA and appropriate sleep apnea treatment recommendations.
NovaSom is available by prescription through either a NovaSom Accredited Center or a NovaSom Registered Prescriber.
